No prior artistic experience is needed for these classes as anyone can learn to draw, paint or sculpt. It’s a skill like any other that needs practice and a willingness to learn and experiment with a variety of materials and techniques.
In the senior classes students have more autonomy and can choose which materials they would like to work with (drawing, painting, clay, printmaking, mixed media, construction etc). and can select their own subjects or themes that they would like to work on. These classes are ideal for students interested in creating a folio for high school or university entry.
At the beginning of each term we will focus on extending drawing skills, which I believe is an important foundation to creative exploration that enables students to visualize and develop their perceptions and ideas. The ability to draw greatly increases a student’s confidence which is reflected in any further experimentation or creative exploration with other materials. After the initial drawing task (to be determined by students or the teacher) the students can choose which direction they would like to go.
All materials (within reason) are provided. For example large canvasses or different paint than provided in the classes need to be purchased by the student.
Aprons are supplied, although students are encouraged to wear older clothes as an apron is not always sufficient.
Small class numbers ensure individual guidance and attention.
Due to social distancing rules around Covid-19 the class numbers are restricted and limited.
Go to the student gallery page to see examples of student work.
For bookings and enquiries please go to the contact page. Bookings are essential.
